Make It Modern: Traditional Blocks in Modern Quilting

Please note the change of date and location of our next guild meeting.  It will will be:

Friday, April 19th at 6:30 pm
At the Heart of Quilting
315 5th St,  West Des Moines, IA 50265

Vanessa Christensen will speak to us about using traditional blocks in modern quilting.  She describes her quilting style as what would happen if Modern Quilting and Traditional Quilting got together and had a baby.  ;)

She is the author of Make it Sew Modern, a book that focuses on using texture for a variety of modern projects.  Vanessa has also published several patterns and has designed two lines of fabric Simply Color and Simply Style for Moda.

We are excited to have her come and speak to the guild!  Be there or be square!

Next Meeting is Thursday, March 21

Hey all!

Our next meeting will be this Thursday, March 21st at 6:30pm at the Urbandale Public Library.

Please bring any completed placemats to be donated to Meals on Wheels.

Please also bring what you have made for the Madrona Road Challenge if you participated.  It will be fun to see what everyone did with this fabric!

Sherry will be giving a 12 minute tip on how to add a sleeve to your quilt for hanging since hopefully several of us will be showing our quilts at our Quilt Show in June.  An email was sent out with the information, but I will bring the information and forms to the meeting on Thursday as well.

Leila and I (Emily) will be sharing our QuiltCon experience with you - the people, the lectures, the quilts!

Next month we will have Vanessa Christenson of V and Co. come and speak about using traditional blocks in modern quilting.

We might be having another sewing day next month as well.  I'll give more info at the meeting.

I'll be posting some information soon about the possibility of membership to the national Modern Quilt Guild so keep an eye out for that.

Okay, that's it for now.  See you Thursday!

Emily V.
