Here is a very brief look at what was discussed at this week's meeting. Feedback is welcome! A big thank you to everyone who stepped up with ideas and volunteered to lead!

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">In addition to the schedule below, Stephanie is exploring the possibility of our doing a Quilts of Valor quilt for the overall guild's charity quilt event.

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">And there was a request for Jill's talents with fabric weaving at some point in the year.

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">But for now, here is the calendar.

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">February 15... GARAGE SALE. This from Veronica:

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Everyone bring fabrics & supplies in baggies, marked with garage sale prices and your name. During the meeting, we will spread everything out and go shopping. Anything you want to buy, you will find the member and exchange money or, as in the past, swapping other comparable items is A-OK!

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">There will also be a free section for stuff you just don't want anymore. Don't worry about marking those.

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Remember to bring cash to the meeting so you can buy some new stuff!

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">March 15... It's a Goodwilly Fabric Challenge. :-) Carol used "goodwilly", as in the Goodwill store, to describe the vintage or found fabric that is the basis of the challenge. Bring at least the equivalent of 1/2 yard of vintage or found fabric in a bag. We will be exchanging them. Your fabric could be shirts, suiting, sheets, whatever! The challenge is to make a quilted pillow, bag, quilt, etc. using 90% of the fabric. The completed project will be due at the August 16th meeting.

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">April 19... Kristen has offered to get the ball rolling on paper piecing tips. Bring all your ideas too!

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">May 17... there will be a hands on with machines IMPROV exercise. Still under construction. Doris will you be leading this one?

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">June 21... Eva will offer a practical hand appliqué lesson. More on this as we get closer. She graciously agreed after we blithely volunteered her!

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">July 19... tentatively a BINDING EVENING. Julie will share her special binding with its custom insert look. We'll also take a look at any facing and machine sewn binding techniques members would like to share.

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">August 16... the Goodwilly Challenge is due!

Let's get our plan ready for 2018! Should we get a steering committee together and/or just come with ideas and create a calendar? Anyone want to present a skill or lead a discussion? Please volunteer! Maybe you have other questions you'd like to bring up.

I would like to discuss if we need the blog site any longer. And if so, who would like to take over doing the posts? Most people watch for the announcements, discussions and events on Facebook. My feeling is using one place for everything would be cleaner and easier. But mine is only one opinion! That being said, I would like someone else to take a turn with the blog if they feel it is necessary!

The meeting starts at 6:45 but feel free to come early and shop! Woodside Quilting has generously provided our meeting space and shopping is one way to thank them.

Remember your modern show and tells!

Happy New Year everybody,
Marny
It will be our annual Holiday Handcrafted gift exchange and Potluck. The description for the gift exchange is pretty open ended...any holiday and at least partially handcrafted (by somebody) and not expensive. Get creative!

It is also an evening to bring food/drink to share. Once you are ready to commit to something, mention it in our Facebook group comments so that we don't have too many duplicates. Or just bring what makes you happy!

This is always a fun evening, so come to socialize and exchange gifts. We really hope you attend even if you do not wish to participate in the gift exchange!!!

Feel free to come early and shop! Woodside Quilting has generously provided our meeting space and shopping is one way to thank them.

Modern show and tells and forming a 2018 steering committee are on the agenda as well!!

Hope everyone can make it!!

Our meeting is Thursday, October 19th at Woodside Quilting.

Most of you probably saw Erin's idea for a program posted on our Facebook site.

I have an idea for a meeting program. I always think it's a shame that we don't take time to learn from each other's results at the quilt show. So my suggestion is that we bring our show quilts in with the comment card and go over the judges comments so we can see what was considered to be good or needing work and improve our own skills. This may also encourage those who have never entered a show not to be afraid to enter next year. Even if you don't quilt for shows you might learn something to improve your skills.

Please bring anything you entered in the quilt show. We would all love to see and learn!!

sewing machines

cutting mats and rotary cutters (NO rulers needed)

heavy duty extension cords

Comment on this post if you're coming and will bring things like an iron, ironing board or cutting mat to share. Also, bring a pot-luck-type food or snack to share. We've changed our topic schedule a little, so I wanted to get the news out early. You won't want to miss this meeting. Local author & extraordinary quilter, Janet Pittman, will give a Trunk Show PLUS with insights and demonstrations on machine appliqué.

I asked Janet to present for us because her book Appliqué The Basics and Beyond is a well-loved resource in my sewing room. I hope you enjoy learning from her too and I can't wait to see her quilts up-close and in real life!

Other Activities
For our other activities, nothing is due this month. But please keep working on...

DMAQG auction blocks, details here, and bring any you have completed

Keep finishing your goals for the finish-it-up challenge (details here) and bring to show

And the solids fabric challenge deadline (again, details here) is next month, so hopefully you're getting some ideas on this one. I still have a few bundles of fabric left if anyone wants one. A month is certainly enough time to make something! (says the girl addicted to one-week project quilting challenges!)

Please wear a nametag, our group is growing so wonderfully! Friends new and old need little reminders of names now and then.

Melissa is signed up for treats. If anyone else would like to help her out, please comment below. Thank you!
